Spotlight on Star Wars Fandom

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away an epic story was told that captured the imagination of fans for over four decades. With it’s other worldly characters, creative technology and imaginative settings it’s not surprising that Star Wars has been a source of inspiration and joy to thousands of sci-fi fans and cosplayers the world over. Not many franchises can claim a multi-generational fan base but while attending Fan Expo Vancouver 2020 it was abundantly clear to me that both children and adults alike delighted in immersing themselves in the world of Star Wars.

Exploring Star Wars Fandom

Every year at Fan Expo Vancouver Star Wars themed groups and organizations have a noticeable presence on the con floor. This year I spoke with a few members of the various groups to learn more about them. Among the groups interviewed were 501st Legion (and their local group Outer Rim Garrison), Rebel Legion (and their local group Falcon Base) along with the talented folks at Saber Guild and Droid Builders. I also chatted with representatives of Dreams Take Flight and Variety which are two of the children’s charities that directly benefit from this passionate group of cosplayers.
