Nearly 40 years after Spaceballs proved that even a galaxy far, far away wasn’t safe from parody, the Schwartz is returning with Spaceballs: The New One. The highly anticipated sequel brought together returning stars including Mel Brooks, Rick Moranis, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman, and George Wyner, alongside a new generation of cast members ready to introduce the beloved franchise to longtime fans and newcomers alike. The panel became an especially memorable moment when Rick Moranis made a surprise appearance in his iconic Dark Helmet costume, earning a huge standing ovation from the Hall H crowd. The convention also gave fans their first look at new footage from the upcoming film, promising that the sequel will continue the original’s irreverent brand of parody while introducing the franchise to a new generation.

Directed by Josh Greenbaum and featuring newcomers including Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Anthony Carrigan, Spaceballs: The New One is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 23, 2027. The world of God of War is getting ready to enter a bold new chapter. During San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Santa Monica Studio took the stage to reveal exciting updates about the future of the legendary PlayStation franchise, including the release date for God of War: Laufey and the surprise announcement that another Kratos-focused adventure is already in development.

The upcoming God of War: Laufey will shift the spotlight away from Kratos and focus on Laufey (also known as Faye), Kratos’ wife and the mother of Atreus. The game will explore Faye’s story following the events of the previous games, taking players into a new mythological adventure filled with mystery, powerful enemies, and the same cinematic storytelling that fans have come to expect from the series. During the SDCC panel, Santa Monica Studio confirmed that God of War: Laufey will launch on February 16, 2027, exclusively for PlayStation 5.

But the biggest surprise came when creative director Cory Barlog revealed that the story does not end with Faye’s adventure. A brand-new Kratos-led God of War game is already planned and will connect directly to the events of Laufey. While details about the next Kratos adventure remain limited, the announcement reassured fans that the legendary Ghost of Sparta still has more battles ahead.

With a new Ghost Rider on the way, we wouldn’t be surprised to see plenty of flaming skulls and leather jackets showing up at conventions in the years ahead.
• Avengers: Doomsday Takes Center Stage:
  Marvel Studios brought the big guns to Hall H with an exciting look at the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. Fans were treated to exclusive footage and new details surrounding the massive crossover event, with familiar faces from across Marvel’s cinematic history returning to the spotlight. The involvement of members of the original X-Men cast only made the whole thing even more exciting. Needless to say, Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to.
• Ryan Reynolds Crashes the Avengers: Doomsday Panel:
  Leave it to Ryan Reynolds to find a way to steal the spotlight without actually being on the panel. Reynolds surprised the Hall H crowd by appearing in the audience dressed as “Jeanpool,” his denim-covered take on Deadpool. He even jokingly asked whether there was still time to squeeze Deadpool into Avengers: Doomsday. The exchange created plenty of laughs—and, naturally, a whole lot of fan speculation. For the record, though, this was all played for fun and was not an official confirmation that Deadpool will appear in the movie.
• A New Black Panther is Coming: Marvel officially announced Black Panther III, with Ryan Coogler returning to direct. Even more exciting, David Jonsson was revealed as T’Challa’s son and the next Black Panther. It’s a huge moment for the legacy of Wakanda and an exciting opportunity to see a new generation step into one of Marvel’s most iconic roles. And yes, we’re already wondering what that new Black Panther suit is going to look like.
• More Spider-Man: Brand New Day Footage:
  Spider-Man fans also got a fresh look at the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The footage featured some familiar faces, including Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, giving fans even more reasons to be curious about where Spidey’s next big-screen adventure is headed. Let’s just say Peter Parker appears to have a lot on his plate.
• Marvel’s VisionQuest Moves Forward:
  The Marvel television universe continues to grow with VisionQuest, which was also highlighted during the presentation. The series is expected to continue the storyline that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along. Whatever Marvel has planned, fans can expect another trip into one of the MCU’s more unusual and visually interesting corners.
• The Spaceballs Franchise Returns:
  That’s right—the Schwartz is coming back! The long-awaited sequel Spaceballs: The New One made a big splash at Comic-Con, bringing together returning cast members and a new generation of performers. The movie looks set to continue the wonderfully ridiculous parody and comedy that made the original Spaceballs a cult favorite. After all these years, it seems the galaxy still isn’t safe from the power of merchandising.
• Rick Moranis Returns as Dark Helmet:
  One of the biggest nostalgic moments of the weekend came when Rick Moranis made a surprise appearance at the Spaceballs: The New One presentation—in full Dark Helmet costume. The Hall H crowd absolutely loved it, and honestly, we can’t blame them. Mel Brooks is also returning as Yogurt, while the new film is expected to honor the legacy of the late John Candy and his beloved character, Barf. For longtime fans of the original, seeing Dark Helmet back on stage was undoubtedly one of those “I can’t believe this is actually happening” Comic-Con moments.
• Star Trek Celebrates 60 Years:
  Star Trek boldly went where it has gone many times before: Hall H! The franchise celebrated its incredible 60th anniversary with a presentation bringing together talent from across its long history. The event looked back at six decades of exploration and fandom while also looking ahead to the future with updates connected to projects including Starfleet Academy and Strange New Worlds. Sixty years later, the final frontier is still going strong.
• New Star Trek Updates:
  Fans also received updates on what’s coming next. Starfleet Academy Season 2 introduced a new character named Keats, while Strange New Worlds offered a particularly mysterious tease for its fourth season. The anniversary celebration was also a great reminder of just how much Star Trek has influenced science fiction and inspired generations of fans—and, of course, cosplayers.
• Apple TV Brings Science Fiction to Hall H:
  Apple TV had plenty to show off as well, with several upcoming and returning genre projects taking the spotlight. Among them was a first look at Neuromancer, the highly anticipated adaptation of William Gibson’s influential cyberpunk novel. With its futuristic world and iconic cyberpunk aesthetic, this is one we’re keeping a particularly close eye on. The series is scheduled to premiere in January 2027.
• More Dark Matter on the Way:
  Fans of Dark Matter were given a preview of Season 2, promising more of the show’s mind-bending exploration of alternate realities and the many different paths a person’s life can take. If you thought keeping track of one reality was complicated, just wait until there are several of them.
• Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh Team Up for Mayday:
  Ryan Reynolds was a busy man at this year’s Comic-Con. In addition to his surprise “Jeanpool” appearance, fans also got an extended preview of Mayday, an upcoming action-comedy starring Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh. The project looks to combine big-screen action with the kind of humor Reynolds has become known for, making it another one to watch.
• The World of Matchbox Comes to the Big Screen:
  Remember those little Matchbox cars? Well, they’re getting the big-screen treatment. Matchbox The Movie received its own Hall H presentation featuring John Cena, Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, and Arturo Castro. It’s another example of Hollywood turning childhood favorites into big-screen adventures—and we’re curious to see what kind of high-octane ride they have planned.
• A First Look at Silo Season 3:
  Apple TV also gave fans an update on Silo, with the upcoming third season continuing to dig deeper into the mysteries surrounding the silos and the origins of the world the characters inhabit. If you’ve been following the series, it looks like there are still plenty of secrets left to uncover.
• More Genre Projects Join the Conversation:
  And, of course, Hall H and the wider Comic-Con experience had plenty more to offer. Upcoming projects spanning science fiction, fantasy, horror, and animation were also part of the conversation, with titles including Blade Runner 2099, Lanterns, Carrie, The Rings of Power, and Queen of the Damned generating buzz throughout the convention.
