Fan Expo Vancouver 2020

This years Fan Expo Vancouver coincided with the Family Day long weekend and offered up a new family friendly experience, catering specifically to the younger fans among us. The usual celebrity photo ops, autograph sessions along with a wide variety of retailers and all the talented folks in artist alley filled the Vancouver Convention Center along with the new Family Zone which seemed to be a huge hit with the little ones. Parents along with their children had the opportunity to have fun with science courtesy of Science World, experience a Harry Potter style sorting hat ceremony, build cardboard box forts and design their own Super Mario Bros. level to be photographed in among many other activities. Given that many of the children were also dressed up as their favourite characters it wouldn’t surprise me at all if there were a few future cosplayers among them.

Speaking of cosplayers, hands down my favourite part of this years con was the Cosplay Red Carpet. Con attendees who dressed up in cosplay had the opportunity to walk the red carpet and have their picture taken by the official Cosplay Red Carpet Photographer. Not only were cosplay shows hosted on the Red Carpet but also at several times throughout the day franchise specific meet-ups gathered for photo-ops. Anyone attending the con in the cosplay of a given fandom could pose for group photos with other cosplayers in the same fandom. The Marvel Universe, My Hero Academia, Harry Potter, and many more cosplay meet-ups happened throughout the day which was an absolute delight for cosplay shutter bugs like myself. Check out the video below for highlights of some of the amazing cosplays to grace this years red carpet.

It was also a pleasure to see that the 501st Legion’s Star Wars costuming organization (and several other Star Wars groups) were at it once again doing what they do so well, raising money for children’s charities. Check out our Spotlight post, Star Wars Fandom at Fan Expo Vancouver 2020 for a more in depth look at this amazing fandom which is committed towards cosplaying for worthy causes.

The Official Cosplay Guests in attendance were Evilyn13, Raging Storm Cosplay along with Skookum Props and Obsessive Costume Design.
